“God is the rock of my heart, He is my portion forever.” (Ps 73:26)”
On the 12th July, the congregation of the Missionaries of Divine Revelation thanked the Lord with great joy for the gift of Sr Maria Benedetta, who, during the Solemn Vigil Mass, made the temporary profession of the vows of Chastity, Poverty and Obedience. A religious profession publically expresses the longing to follow Our Lord Jesus more closely under the rule of the Missionaries of Divine Revelation.
Sr Maria Benedetta is no different than her contemporaries, she was not born with a special mark that signalled her vocation, nor did she grow up with the conviction of a calling to the Religious life. No! Sr Benedetta merely knew how to recognize the voice of the Lord who spoke intimately to her through the ordinary events in her life, the Word of God and the people that she met. In each call we contemplate God’s staggering pedagogy, with its precision and patience, that works through simple yet profound signs. The Lord never frightens you, nor does He try to suppress your personality which He created. Rather, the Lord gives a new horizon upon which to approach life. He gives us the opportunity to serve Him without holding back so that we may see His image in those we meet.
The centre of every vocation is Christ. He is the beginning, the Donor and the end of every vocation. The vows that we profess are not about renouncing something, but, rather more about embracing Someone, the Greatest Good, who elected us to be His from all eternity. “The king will fall in love with your beauty; He is your Lord, bow down before him.” (Ps 45:11) The Lord continually rests His gaze upon those He has chosen to be His spouse and therefore, what a pity would it be if this invite from the King of Kings was despised. Sr Maria Benedetta, notwithstanding her youth, recognized her Lord, her Beloved, and accepted His call to be totally His with great enthusiasm.
Therefore, we celebrate a new “yes” to the Lord! This “yes” stands out to the world in which we live and it also unites us with that “yes” of the saints, martyrs, men and women who have had the courage to testify to Christ with their lives. May the “yes” that was pronounced during the Celebration become like perfumed incense rising up to the Lord each day. May this “yes” always live in Sr Marie Benedetta’s heart and mind so that all her actions are orientated towards Christ, her Spouse.
The Missionaries of Divine Revelation wish that the Lord will always give Sr Maria Benedetta the grace to love Him and serve Him every day so that, through her testimony, many souls can reach heaven.
